Lombard Trophy
This week Mark Wilson and I had an enjoyable round when we played in the regional qualifier for the Lombard Trophy at Fulford Golf Club in York. We scored a respectful three under par better ball score of 69, unfortunately we trailed the winners by eight shots who shot a fantastic score of 61.
Martin Havenhand
Martin and I incorporated a lesson and club fitting in our first session. The following points outline our findings:
- Aiming right of target
- We worked on a pre shot routine including a forward press to trigger the start of his swing.
- On the takeaway Martin's arms have separated from his body. To remedy this I advised that Martin should feel that the upper part of his left arm maintains contact with the upper left part of his chest.
- Martin aims to work on a more even paced tempo which would create a feeling of collecting the golf ball and not hitting from the top.
During the club fitting session we compared the new PING G30 driver against his own driver and we discovered an average 5 to 6mph increase in his ball speed, which equates to an increased distance of 15 to 18 yards.

No team golf played this week but good news for the First Team. Following our recent storming run of 8 Nils, other results went in our favour last week and we have moved closer to promotion. We still lie third but now within five points of top spot.
Unfortunately, Sam Bairstow has played his last game for the team due to other commitments. He has been in great form this season and a mainstay of the team. Well done Sam and thank you. Not to worry though as we have plenty of strong replacements to take us across the finish line.
Finally, a big thank you to all who played and partied over Captain's Weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and was still physically recovering on Wednesday. The Charity benefitted by over £2200 on Saturday via hole in one donations, the raffle and the auction. Just brilliant, thank you all. My target has now increased to £4000 for the season.
Congratulations to the winner, Michael Cardwell, a great performance over the two days from a new and inexperienced member but with a real passion for the game. What can you say about Dave Slinsgby, except a top quality golfing display from a very experienced player. Well done both of you. For those interested there is a picture of some party animals on the Facebook page of Rapture Party Band. Enjoy the rest of the season, Captain Vinny!
