I am thrilled to inform you that I have decied to pick three Game Improvement Champions in total and they are Claire Oates, Geoff Thorpe and Martin Havenhand. I look forward to working with them on their all-round game. Hopefully we can strengthen all aspects of their game and improve their scoring in the process, so watch this space! My thanks go out to all of you who volunteered for the position!
The Taskers Trophy is a knockout competition for clubs in South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire. Each team consists of seven male players (over 50's) with handicaps of 18 or less and matches are singles match play. There are now over 100 teams in the competition with some clubs entering as many as five teams. Matches are arranged between the competing clubs after the draw has been made but players need to be available to play both on weekdays and weekends. Each team will play at least two matches as there is a "Plate Competition" for those eliminated in the first round.
This year our stay in the competition was short lived with a narrow 4-3 defeat at Kirby Muxloe, followed by another close match losing 4-3 at home to Norwood Park in the Plate Competition.
If any groups of players are interested in entering another Hallowes team next year, please contact Bob Heaven on 01246 415596 who can supply further details or see the website http://interclub.org.uk/. The entry fee is currently £55 per team and all proceeds go to supporting junior golf in the area.
In tough conditions at last week's Derbyshire Alliance at Chesterfield GC, Martin Havenhand and Roger Bellamy scored an excellent 36 points and finished second in the Seniors' Prize. I also managed to finish second in the Pro's Medal with a score of 74.

Captains Log - Still plenty going on again.
The three man Second Team Championship was played at Wath on Sunday. Once again we were well represented by three keen and competitive members in Mark Cooper, Jonathan Lomas and Jonathan Sharp. We finished fifth (out of 30) on count back with only two shots difference to second place. Well done and thanks guys. Surprisingly, Wath won by a further eight shots.
Sunday saw 6-18 handicap foursomes league played out at Sickleholme. A couple of changes with Phil Robinson and John Hemstalk coming in. Unfortunately we lost 3-1 with two matches halved. Fair start to that league so far.
There was also the small issue of the Steel City Derby settled on Sunday. The Blades overcame the Owls and red and white ribbons werre attached to the trophy for another year. As Captain I remain a neutral, but also as a relegated Hull City fan.
I must also thank Rikki and Mark Dobson as organisers of the match which raised £70 for my charity, Macmillan Cancer Support. Thanks to all contenders. Wednesday saw the First Team at home to Wheatley which ended in a 6-2 defeat. A couple of enforced team changes mean we just can't get any momentum. Still nine games to go and an opportunity to turn results around.
Captains Charity Draw winner - Bill Cooke. Bill has won £25.
Wow how time flies, it will soon be Captains weekend! Watch out for the flyers.
