New Recruit
Darren Coop has recently joined our greenkeeping staff. He has a handicap of plus 1, so does bring with him the golfers insight which can only be beneficial.
Course Development
We have a first draft document returned from Jonathan Gaunt (Golf Course Architect) which broadly highlights works discussed on his site visit on Friday, 9 December. At this point no works have been agreed, however we are hopeful that improvement works will be given the go-ahead for later in the year. This includes:
Re-modelled bunkers firming up looking likely to be in play early season, we have suffered problems with badgers rooting around in the new bunkers.
All fairways verti-drained to 12 inch.
Imants shockwave de-compaction treatment carried out to 6 inch, designed to revitalize heavy wear areas by relieving soil compaction, improving aeration and removing surface water.
Work to paths still ongoing waiting for a suitable time to bring a roller on to site to complete leveling and compaction.
Ladies new 17th tee complete, ready for play in May 2017.
Air 2G2 works planned for 31st and 1st.
Ecosolve carried out to 3rd and 8th green, we are planning to carry out the same procedure on the 7th green and 9th tee.
Material compounds have been rebuilt in an effort to provide appropriate space for greens materials to be stored.
Greenkeepers' internal store mods ongoing.
Tree pruning has been carried out on the 2nd tee area.
Hedge pruning along the 3rd out of bounds is ongoing.
Bunker edging ongoing.
Drainage ditch across 17th fairway will be filled early February.
We didn't see that one coming...
The hype surrounding last week's PGA Tour event at Torrey Pines was far bigger than usual, mainly due to Tiger's return to a familiar hunting ground where he has dominated in the past. He was grouped with Jason Day and Dustin Johnson for the opening rounds so to say this was a marquee group would be an understatement.
It is often said that playing alongside someone who is playing well can benefit your game and vice versa, and this was certainly the case last week as all three golfers missed the cut after 36 holes. Leading the way going into the weekend was Englishman Justin Rose, only to succumb to Spain's Jon Rahm who secured his maiden PGA Tour title by nailing a 60 foot putt for eagle on the final green. Talk about keeping your nerve under pressure.
We'll be on Tiger watch over the next few weeks so keep checking our newsletters to find out how he got on. In the meantime, make sure you dust off your clubs and take to the course. When you do, pop your head in the shop and take a look at all of the new stock that has started to arrive.
