Hello golfers,

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and I would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have supported the pro shop throughout 2015, It's very much appreciated and here's to some great golf in 2016.

2016 promises to be a great year for golf! There's sure to be an exciting battle to be the world's number one player between Jordan Spieth, Rory Mcllroy and Jason Day. In addition to this golf will be part of the summer Oympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It will be the first time golf has been played at the Olympics since the 1904 summer Olympics and it is to feature two events, the men's and women's Individual 72 holes events. Also in September the European Team will be heading to Hazeltine to defend the Ryder Cup.

 

Anchored putting ban comes into effect...

Anchored putting is no longer legal, as a rule change proposed several years ago came into effect from the start of 2016. The rule change to ban anchoring was proposed by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club and U.S. Golf Association more than three years ago. Rule 14-1b states. ''In making a stroke, the player must not anchor the club, either 'directly' or by use of an 'anchor point.'' The long (or belly) putter can still be used in competition as long as it is not directly braced against an anchor point.

Golf Course

Due to the prolonged wet weather and the effect it is having on the golf course, members are encouraged to carry during adverse conditions. 

Please try and carry wherever possible at this time of year.

 

Three Club Betterball

Congratulations to Sam Bairstow and Jack Wilson for winning the Three Club Betterball Competition during the Christmas period with a great score of 43 points. The full results are as follows:

Winners - Sam Bairstow and Jack Wilson 43 points (£30 voucher each), runners up - Andy Wilde and Doug Broadfoot 42 points (£20 voucher each) and in third place - Trevor Marshall and Iain Thomson 39 points back six (£10 voucher each).

 

New line of woods from Callaway

Callaway Golf has announced its new line of XR 16 woods. These will be available in our pro shop from early February 2016, the new products include the XR 16 driver, the XR Pro16 driver, the XR 16 fairway wood and the XR 16 fairway wood. For the XR 16 driver, Callaway's Research and Developement team worked with aerodynamics experts at Boeing to re-define what is possible with clubhead speed and aerodynamics in a golf club. Callaway engineered it's most forgiving head shape ever and the specialists at Boeing made it fast with a re-engineered speed step. In addition to delivering a forgiving shape, high speed and low drag in the crown the XR 16 driver also features a next generation R*MOTO face that is lighter and up to 19 per cent thinner.
